ABOUT THIS SITE

back to main

In 1884 an Italian educator dreamed a very strange dream. He saw a line passing from Valparaiso in South America, crossing the Atlantic Ocean, passing through Africa and then graciously touching the western shores of India on it way to Calcutta.

That line, he was told, was to be the path along which his educational mission would be established - carried forward into the future by his followers.

Today, that Dream is alive in Western India through the 42 service initiatives undertaken by the Bombay Province - each of them motivated by the founder's one magnificent obsession:"It is enough for me to know that you are young and abandoned and I will love you with all my heart ."

This website consists of a compendia of historical notes that document the starting and establishing of Salesian presences in the Province of Bombay between 1928 and 1998. The long and tireless labour of the early Salesians, day after dreary day, eludes adequate documentation.

Yet, this work is a feeble attempt at injecting into cyberspace the good tidings that Don Bosco's love for the young is alive in Western India and that it still makes good 21st century sense to join Mary in her song of praise:

"He who is Mighty has done great things for us !"
